ResiliEnhance Platform 2025 Meeting

Joint Advanced Schools

The ResiliEnhance Platform 2025 Meeting will be held in Udine, Italy, on October 27th and 28th, 2025. The event is organized by the University of Udine - SPRINT-Lab, with the support of the Central European Initiative (CEI), the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, and the International Center for Mechanical Sciences (CISM).

This annual event convenes leading experts from UNESCO Chairs, UN organizations, and other key institutions to advance the understanding and governance of disaster resilience.

Keynote Lectures

This year's meeting will build upon the foundational work of previous years. Since its inception in 2022, the platform has explored transforming governance for disaster resilience (2022), analyzed the 1976 Friuli earthquake reconstruction to develop an evidence-based framework (2023), and deepened the understanding of thematic resilience narratives (2024).

The 2025 meeting will focus on practical applications and forward-looking strategies, emphasizing the integration of scientific research, policy, and community engagement to tackle emerging challenges.

The main conference day on October 27th will feature distinguished keynote speakers who will set the tone for the discussions:
- Dr. Jair Torres from the UNDRR Bonn Office will deliver a lecture on integrating Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Climate Change approaches to create a new governance model for territorial resilience.
- Dr. Carlos Uribe from the UNESCO DRR Unit in Paris will discuss systemic risk and strategies for translating knowledge into action, drawing on insights from UNESCO's work.

Intensive Workshops and Collaborative Sessions

A significant portion of the meeting is dedicated to a hands-on Alignment Workshop for a Special Issue of the prestigious International Journal of Disaster Risk Reduction (IJDRR). The special issue, titled “ResiliEnhance Project: Leveraging Knowledge to Enhance Disaster Resilience for a Safer and Sustainable Future”, will feature contributions from a wide range of experts. The workshop will include presentations and discussions on case studies from Croatia, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Slovenia, and Italy, as well as reflections on topics like the role of AI in flood resilience and scenario-based risk assessment.

On October 28th, a Participatory Lab will engage attendees in teamwork sessions focused on the graphical analysis and representation of disaster cases through the "ResiliEnhance lens", fostering a collaborative environment for knowledge sharing and innovation.

The event will bring together an impressive list of participants, including multiple UNESCO Chairs, representatives from UNDRR and UNESCO, the Central European Initiative (CEI), the Italian National Department of Civil Protection, and numerous academic and research institutions from across Europe, all committed to building a safer and more resilient future.
